Today we have the
Chance to reset ourselves, to
Start again, but why
Do we have to wait for a
New Year? Live life every day
Today we have the
Chance to reset ourselves, to
Start again, but why
Do we have to wait for a
New Year? Live life every day
Rushing into the house just a few minutes ago after walking our elderly neighbors dogs, my daughter exclaimed, “Dad, quick, you have to get a picture of the sunset.” Walking to the front door, I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of the sunset that I saw before me. Most people think of sunrises as being a period of renewal, but after a morning of snow that turned to a drenching rain that lasted more than seven hours, the sunset today was amazing and a great way to end the day. To me, a period of renewal.

Waiting for the end,
When hope is still alive and
Our future seems so
Bright, Another year is done,
Renewal is the answer
That time of year is here again, in just a couple of days,
When resolutions will define us, our minds are set ablaze.
But why do wait we to change, to make new amends,
When we have the entire prior year, I guess it all depends.
Lose some weight, be a little nicer, these are things to strive for,
But why doesn’t it ever last, despite the steady roar.
So here we are, and in this time of renewal,
All I really ask for, is just a little time, to think and to refuel.
So I hope that when I wake up, in oh so many days,
I’m still on a steady course, to mend and change my ways.
Dreaming of another time,
Innocent lies smother the smell of deceit,
Sadness slowly seeps into a reflection,
Cowering, frightened
Of the inevitable,
Vivid images penetrate an otherwise
Enviable task of finding the
Reality of my tomorrow

Retreat
A place of peace
That does not question or
Judge, a place that asks for nothing.
Sitting quietly, absorbing
And transforming the soul,
Cleansing the mind,
Content
Chill
Cold nights rain
Collecting, bare skin exposed
Cool orb spins, drips and shudders
Liquid ice stone cold
Lucid thoughts
Fade

Slowly he moved through the woods, hoping that as the hours passed, it would never end. Gliding effortlessly over the rocks and gnarled tree roots, the soothing fine mist of light rain fell slowly and cooled him to his core. Although he felt chilled, he pushed on and thought to himself, “I would not want to be doing anything else.” The nagging thought of having to end the hike entered his mind and he didn’t want this to happen, dreading the return to normalcy. As the mist truly began to clear, he rubbed his eyes and wondered where he was. However, the one thing that he was sure of was that his dream had been a good one. Slowly swinging his legs over the bed, he started his day.
