Crazy, Crazy Weather

My backyard before a snowstorm this evening. Two days from now the temps will be in the 50’s. Crazy!

Dreaming

lucid_dreaming

I dreamed that I was on the trail.

Daypack cinched tight, boots firm on my feet.

Sun slipping through the trees, sweat running down my bearded face.

I dreamed that I was on the trail.

Feet falling, one in front of the other, the breeze bending the trees.

The trail undulating, leaving its mark as I breathe in the warm air.

I dreamed that I was on the trail.

Snow and sleet falling, I knew it was too soon.

I dreamed that I was on the trail.

My Furry Friend

Sitting on the couch, my furry friends soft breath reassuring,

The snow falling outside, his head resting on my leg, soft eyes looking for confirmation.

Like every snowflake, each glance is unique, telling a story.

As the snow settles on the earth, it won’t move, much like my furry friend.

Gray Skies

Gray skies,

    Suns rays absent

       Cool mist of tomorrow

          Falling quietly from within

Seeking a time and space for peace

         To be left alone, one

     Waiting for the

    Blue skies

The Cold After The Storm

V__604D

That’s right folks…On Saturday 1/6/18 at just after 7 am, the temperature in Mahopac, NY was -12.  Not believing the car thermostat, I checked two different weather sites and it was confirmed. I don’t think that I need to dwell on just how cold it was with the wind chill! By the way, a week after the snow and cold, it is going to be 50 degrees and raining.

You Gotta Love Snow Days!

002

As a teacher, one of the things I know that I look forward to every year are snow days. This particular storm brought us two days off based on the snow on Thursday and then on Friday as the brutally cold temperatures came in as the storm exited.

This was the scene last Thursday morning a couple of hours after the snow started flying. Not only did we get over seven inches of the white stuff, the wind was whipping, making the “real feel” really cold.

A New Year?

The end of the year is just two days away,

It’s soon to be history I’m happy to say.

A year full of ups and a year full of downs,

With many more smiles than awfully sad frowns.

At work or at home, the time has gone fast,

But with January upon us, it most certainly won’t last.

The time will slow to a horrible crawl

Waiting for spring and its inevitable call.

So wherever you stand with regards to the new year,

It’s going to happen, don’t have any fear!

An Acrostic Winter

Wonderful scenes of marshmallow magic

Icy days and icy nights

Nice or naughty?

Trees, naked, alone and swaying

Excited young children, one with the snow

Remembering next to the fire, hot cocoa in hand
