April Showers Bring What??

“I have a therapist. Her name is nature.”

-Unknown

Today’s hike started a little on the dark and dreary side. When I left the house at just around 8 am, it was foggy and the temperature was 47 degrees. By the end of the hike the temp would rise to an extremely comfortable 64 degrees.

As I made my way through and around Ward Pound Ridge reservation, the skies cleared and a nice breeze took care of the bugs that had been had been feasting on my face.

“No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.”

-Hal Borland

Two weeks ago the Weekly Photo Challenge was “Awakening” and it asked for photos that showed renewal. My original entry was a sunrise, and even though I would have like to entered one that showed nature being reborn after a long cold and snowy winter, it wasn’t quite ready. As you can see by this photo, the forsythia is blooming but the woods are still quite bare. We are finally starting to see some signs of spring!

The Second Best Day…So Far

“Walking is a man’s best medicine.”

-Hippocrates

For the second day this week we have had some superb hiking weather. If it could be like this all year round it would be awesome!

The Best Day…So Far

Hiking and happiness go hand in hand or foot in boot.”

-Diane Spicer

Monday April 23rd was probably the best day weather wise that we have had this year. With a temperature of around 60 with absolutely no humidity, a strong breeze and clear blue skies, it felt really good to be back out on the trail.

Hike #4-4.9-21.2

Awakening-WPC

This is a photo taken prior to the start of a hike at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. The sky was void of any clouds and the sun was just rising to bring us a new day, a day of endless possibilities.

It’s About Time!

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in an office or mowing the lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.”

– Jack Kerouac

All week long the weather folks have been promising us that we were in store for a beautiful day today. With temps in the high 60’s, it hasn’t been this nice in a long, long time. After a winter of nor’easters, snow and freezing rain, I firmly believe that we were owed a day like today. Ignore the fact that tomorrow the high is supposed to be 38 and they are saying we might get some sleet, I’ll take a day like today anytime I can.

Starting at just around 6:20 am, the temperature was an incredible 52 degrees and the sky was devoid of any clouds. There is really nothing I can say to describe just how glorious it was! I can’t think of to many other things I would have rather been doing this morning.

A naked tree reaching up to the sky. Pictures like this symbolize the death of one season and the awakening of another. With no leaves, they seem to searching for something that they probably will never find. This is why I love hiking during the fall and winter. You just look up and life is waiting for you!

This photo rounds out my top three photos of the year. Taken at my parents house, I love the colors in this picture, especially how you don’t see a direct cut off, instead the darker colors fade into the lighter.

My second favorite photo of the year was taken after a late afternoon hike in Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. It was getting dark very quickly and the temperature was somewhere in the mid 40’s. Even though it was a short hike, it was a good one.

2017 Favorites-My Favorite Photo Of The Year

This is my favorite photo of 2017. I decided that after I dropped my daughter off at hockey practice that I would go to the Appalachian Railroad station to take some pictures. I actually sat down on the tracks facing north and took this shot.
