“Good news is rare these days, and every glittering ounce of it should be cherished and hoarded and worshipped and fondled like a priceless diamond.”
-Hunter S. Thompson
It is unfortunate that this quote has any truth to it. Any grain of good news is almost as rare as winning the lottery, and we know the odds on that. It just isn’t possible to turn on any news station and not get a healthy dose of incredibly bad news. Do I really need to know how much someone hates someone else, or who killed the old man in your neighborhood? No, I most certainly don’t.
So follow the advice of Hunter S. Thompson when he suggests that we fondle, caress and fully embrace every piece of good news that we get.
Who know? The last piece of good news you might hear might actually be the last piece of good news that you hear…Think about it…
“New Year’s Day. A fresh start. A new chapter in life waiting to be written. New questions to be asked, embraced, and loved. Answers to be discovered and then lived in this transformative year of delight and self-discovery. Today carve out a quiet interlude for yourself in which to dream, pen in hand. Only dreams give birth to change.”

The sun coming up over the hill behind my house on a beautiful New Year’s Day.
“Days of high temperature are almost disposable. Time gets pureed in the swelter of it all. Cold-weather hours drags, days and nights become small epics. I welcome the bleakness!”
“While I relish our warm months, winter forms our character and brings out our best.”
“Winter is not a season, it’s a celebration.”
The last hike of 2016!!!! Since it was already 2:30 by the time I got to the trailhead, I decided to go ahead and do the quick loop in Fahnestock State Park. The loop ensured that I would get a good work out and more importantly, that I would be out of the woods before it got dark.
As soon as I came down off of Route 301, the sound of cars passing quickly disappeared and I was quickly embraced by the silence of the woods. I was lucky enough to be alone in my endeavor and I relished every minute I was out there. The sound of my hiking poles mixed with the crunch of the ice under my boots made for an interesting soundtrack as I made my way through the woods.
Although it was cold and the wind was blowing, the solitude was bliss!
Good morning everyone! Yesterday was a nasty morning with some snow and a little wintry mix here in the Hudson Valley of New York, but today is beautiful. A little chill in the air but the sky is blue with some wisps white. It’s a new day! I thought today I would share some of my favorite quotes with you to get you started and to think about the promise that each new day brings. I hope that you enjoy them!
“Today is a new day. It’s a day you have never seen before and will never see again. Stop telling yourself the ‘same crap, different day’ lie! How many days has that lie stolen from you? Seize the wonder and uniqueness of today! Recognize that throughout this beautiful day, you have an incredible amount of opportunities to move your life into the direction you want it to go.”
“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”
“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future. Concentrate the mind on the present moment.”
“Worrying doesn’t take away tomorrow’s troubles. It takes away today’s peace.”
When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.”
It’s taken a long time but I am learning later in life that how you react to people and situations comes back to you and no one else. I know that sounds simple, but being pissed off was a way of life for me for a long time. I can see now that blaming others for the stress that I felt was stress that I chose to experience.
Clear your mind and accept responsibility for your actions and circumstances and you will find yourself a much happier person.
I found the following quotes as I was meandering through the web and thought that I would share them. Peace to all of you!!!
“Remember, most of your stress comes from the way you respond, not the way your life is. Adjust your attitude, and all that extra stress is gone.”
“You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you.”
