Black Cat Appreciation Day

‘But I don’t want to go among mad people,’ said Alice. ‘Oh, you can’t help that,’ said the cat. ‘We’re all mad here.’

-Lewis Carroll

“In a cat’s eye, all things belong to cats.”

-Joseph Wood Krutch

Allow me to introduce you to Sirius, our black cat. I am introducing you to him because today, August 17th, is National Black Cat Appreciation Day.

A Summer Ride

“Happiness starts with a wet nose and ends with a tail.”

“Once you have had a wonderful dog, a life without one is a life diminished.”

Our dog Jase absolutely loves to go for rides. Of course, during the summer, he expects one at least once a day. If he doesn’t get one, he lets you know it! Watching that tongue flop in the wind from my side-view mirror makes every trip worth it.

What a great dog.

Pet Me!

“I am Rabbit. I can be anywhere. I can be everywhere. I am outside time. I am outside dimension. Do you want me? I am yours.”
―Mark Andrew Poe

Here is the reaction of our rabbit Luna after my daughter stopped petting her. All she wants is a little attention!! As always, please excuse the grainy nature of the photograph.

Awkward-Daily Prompt

An awkward scene unfolded this morning as my daughter was getting ready to go to school. As you can see by the picture, our cat is sitting in the window. The rabbit, who is always trying to hang out with him, was trying to figure out a way to get onto the ledge so they could share the moment together. Unfortunately for the bunny, she slipped and fell off of the desk. Now before you freak out and wonder if the beautiful bunny was hurt, take a look right below her. That’s right, it’s my daughters laundry bag. Thankfully she fell into it and it was pretty much filled with clothes and that cushioned her fall.

The Odd Couple

One of the oddest friendships I have ever seen is the one shared by our cat and rabbit. You would think at the very least that the cat would try to eat the bunny but no, they are the best of friends! Now if I could just get our 90 pound dog into the picture…

One of my favorite things to do besides hiking is taking photos of my animals. We finally have a day with clear blue skies and a temperature hovering around 60 degrees. When it is as beautiful as this, our dog Jase knows that he will be able to partake in the warmth with us. He is quite the handsome fella!!!!

Story-WPC

The past week has not only been a difficult one for the humans in our house, but for our animals as well. Due to two nor Easter’s, we were left without power for just about seven days. As good as a friend as he is to us, I know that our dog Jase was as miserable as we were.

Knowing this, he was still the same happy member of the family that he always is. Needless to say, this pictures say it all!! I can’t tell you enough about what a great dog he is.

The Three Stooges

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”

― Anatole France

“Animals are such agreeable friends―they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms.”

― George Eliot

Here is a post that has nothing to do with hiking!

We have three members of our family who bring a great deal of happiness to the humans in our house. You have seen Jase a few times and he is the biggest of the three. Please don’t make the mistake of thinking that because he is the largest animal that he rules the roost. He takes the brunt of the abuse from the other two. (Never mean spirited!)

Luna, the rabbit, can  be the most intimidating of the three. Totally unassuming, she roams around the house and drinks water out of the dogs water dish and will not let him drink until she is finished! If he tries, Luna will let him know he needs to wait. Hmmm…the dog weighs 90 pounds!

Serius the cat, thinks that he is stealthy but he is not to good at it. He spends most of his time attacking the dog (never maliciously) and waits for the dog to respond. Much to his dismay, the dog never even tries to retaliate. But he keeps trying.

Anyway, it’s great having three animals with such different personalities in the house. Even though they kind of harass each other from time to time, it’s always nice to see the rabbit and the cat sleeping together or the dog and the cat sitting with each other on the couch. Each one is a full member of the family!!!

We couldn’t find Luna until we looked under my daughter’s bed. She probably wanted to be left alone!
