12/27/22:

So much has happened since I last updated my “About” page. I retired from teaching just about three years ago after an incredibly satisfying career as a special educator. As with everyone else in the entire world, 2020 brought COVID and the ensuing lockdowns, breakdowns, and hysteria surrounding it.

As noted in my post on 12/26/22 (and others), you know that I had a heart attack. The heart attack, along with COVID, congestive heart failure, and Type 2 Diabetes, has postponed my plans to hike the Camino Frances.

With that said, I still have a strong desire to hike the Camino. Since I had a defibrillator implanted, it makes it impossible to wear a traditional pack. This, of course, raises a whole new set of logistical questions that need to be answered. If it is meant to be, it will happen.

Besides that, my love of hiking, photography, and woodworking has not waned, and I will continue to document every hike I complete through words and photographs.

I hope that everyone who reads this has a happy and fulfilling New Year’s!!!

Peace to all of you and HAPPY HIKING!!!!!

1/27/19:

As the first month of 2019 comes rushing to its completion, I won’t lie-I often think of 2020 and its arrival. Obviously, this includes some wishful thinking on my part, as it is still 11 months away. Looking into the future, 2020 is the year that will more than likely close the door on my career as a special educator.

While hiking continues to be what I love to do the most, and with my thoughts currently on walking the Camino Frances when I retire, I will be preparing myself mentally and physically for this task during 2019.

But is that all I plan on doing? Of course not. I still love woodworking and will continue working on my photography skills. Over the course of the last several years, I have developed a keen interest in black and white photography and will continue to experiment with that.

When I see fit, I will also thrill my readers with some poetry, rhyming, and otherwise for those who care to read it. Honestly, the rhyming stuff (IMO) is much better!

Above all else, I will keep on documenting each and every hike that I do through words and photographs.

So life goes on for The Zen Hiker. With many interesting life changes just on the horizon, I hope that those of you who have been with me stay and those of you that are new to the sight like what you see and follow me.

Peace to all of you!!!

I’m happy to discover this lovely blog. Your header photo is stunning. If it is yours, I would love to write a piece of short fiction inspired by it. I would also credit you and publish a link to your blog in the post.

I wish that it was my photo! I found it on the web and thought it fit my frame of mind at the time. If I had any photos that were anywhere near as stunning I would use one of them as my header. Thanks for the kind words about the blog. I will admit that I hope that someday I can approach your level of writing.

Thank you so much for flattering me by following my blog. I hope I won’t disappoint. I love your Hunter Thompson quote …. it is enough to convince me that a blog written with that as it’s banner is going to be a blog I thoroughly enjoy. You have quite an eye and you hike – what more can I ask for!

I can feel your love of hiking. My daughter and her husband love hiking also. They just did a 10-day trip of rock climbing in Bryce Canyon, Utah, should go home tomorrow. Next, they want to hike Dolomite Mountain in N. Italy. We do little hikes compare to them. Thank you for visiting my blog and follow. See you around soon. 🙂

Hello Michael, you found the blog where I write about Photography. If photography is the subject you were searching for then you can be sure that photography is the only subject I discuss.
Now that I know about you I will spend some time looking at the images you produce and reading what you have to say about them.
    Nice to be in contact.

Even though I have been taking pictures for awhile, it has always been with a relatively inexpensive camera. I recently (last week) upgraded my camera and I am trying to find out as much information about photography as I can. So although I happened upon your blog, I am glad that I did because I am trying to learn what I can! I do try to participate in as many photo challenges as I can and I do love taking pictures. Thanks for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it!
