“Everywhere is within walking distance if you have the time.”

Not that those of us who hike/walk have to be told, but check out the link below for some great information on the benefits of walking. It fascinates me that an activity as simple as walking can have such a profound effect on your overall health.
Happy reading and as always, Happy Hiking!!!
Haha I’m catching up with your posts in reverse order. I should have read this one before commenting on the other ones. Can you recommend books you’ve read on the subject? Not how to survive the Himalayas, but books for average people? I’d be interested if you reviewed a couple of books on your blog.

I do have several books that I could certainly recommend. Let me search them out and I’ll get them up in a post ASAP. As you know, I have nothing but time to kill!

Great article and video. Here’s a a question for you Oh Hiking Guru Friend of Mine. At work, as you know, we park a distance from the building, which is good. And I rarely sit at work. I’m always running/rushing around. Someone told me that doesn’t really count, because rushing around at work is stressful, so it only “counts” if one is walking during free time. But that doctor on the video seems to be saying the opposite. What do you think?

I think that any walking that you do is beneficial. It doesn’t matter whether it’s during your free time or if you are rushing at work. I look at it this way-how many times when you have been walking on the track during your “free” time have you found yourself thinking about life issues? For the most part, I think those types of issues are much more stressful than work stress! I think it is great that you don’t sit that much at work and have the ability to walk during the day! (Of course this all my opinion!)

Even though I take the elevator up from the first floor in the morning, it’s the balance issues. I have fallen so many times that I don’t go up the stairs if my arms are full and I can’t use the banister. I truly am not as old as I sound! Just health issues. On paper I’m unhealthy but in person I’m not lol.

If you are going to hike, invest in a pair of trekking poles. I have used them pretty much for the 40 years and would have fallen many more times than I have if I didn’t have them! They help with going uphill but more importantly downhill.
